Benchmark index Nifty 50 surged up early on Friday to hit the 23,000 mark for the first time. The index made a new all-time high of 23,004.05. Sensex also made a new all-time high of 75,582.28.
What Happened: The markets have been upbeat thanks to the positive global cues and the record dividend announced by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). It took 88 trading sessions for the 50-stock index to gain 1,000 points and reach 23,000, following its initial climb to 22,000 in January this year.

The gains in the index this morning were led by Hindalco, L&T, which reached a record high, Bharti Airtel and Wipro. In the six months, the index has gone up around 15%. The index was dragged down by Adani Ports, Tata Consumer and Shriram Finance. At the time of writing 33 stocks were in the red while 17 traded in black.
Price Action: Nifty 50 was trading 0.19% lower at 22,924.60 in early trade on Friday.
