A woman in Bengaluru reportedly fell victim to an online scam while attempting to purchase tickets for an IPL cricket match, losing ₹86,000 in the process.
What Happened: The woman found a Facebook account named “IPL Cricket Ticket” claiming to sell tickets for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru-Kolkata Knight Riders match, Times of India reported. Without verification, she contacted the account.
The person claimed to sell IPL tickets and offered to reserve 20 tickets for her upon upfront payment. Initially, he requested ₹8,000 as an advance payment to secure the tickets. Trusting the seller, she transferred the amount.

Subsequently, the seller asked for additional payments in separate transactions—₹11,000, ₹8,170, ₹14,999 and ₹21,000. Each time, she complied, expecting to receive the tickets. However, upon demanding the tickets or a refund, the seller made excuses and requested more money.
No Fear: Realising she had been deceived, the woman threatened to involve the police. In response, the scammer dared her to do so and terminated the call. The following day, she lodged a complaint with the police, leading to the registration of a cheating case.
This incident It serves as a reminder to customers to remain vigilant and avoid falling prey to scams that appear too good to be true.
