Meta is taking a step forward in India’s battle against AI-generated misinformation through its partnership with the Misinformation Combat Alliance (MCA), which is a cross-industry alliance that unites various sectors to fight fake news.
What to know: Together, they’re launching a Deepfakes Analysis Unit (DAU) that introduces a WhatsApp tipline. Starting March 25, the general public can send audio notes and videos to (+91) 9999025044 to verify synthetic media.

This service, available in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu, actively sifts through submissions to identify any AI-generated content.
Pamposh Raina, who leads the DAU, emphasizes their dedication to flagging media that might mislead or cause harm, focusing on content that could influence public opinion or lead to real-world consequences.
The MCA, with its 16 members ranging from fact-checkers to media houses, is at the forefront of a collective fight against misinformation. The initiative is part of a broader effort to maintain the digital realm’s integrity by curbing the spread of artificially created misleading content.
