In a decisive move to enforce its community standards, X Corp has purged over 5 lakh user accounts in India, citing policy violations particularly those related to child safety and terrorism

What Happened: The action took place between January 26 and February 25, targeting accounts involved in child sexual exploitation, non-consensual nudity, and the promotion of terrorism. The total number of accounts banned during this period reached 5,08,155.

The company’s monthly report, adhering to India’s IT Rules 2021, revealed that it had received 14,421 complaints via its grievance mechanisms. X Corp also reviewed 41 grievances related to account suspensions, resulting in one reinstatement while upholding the suspension of the remaining accounts.

Most complaints received were regarding ban evasion, with a significant number also pertaining to the promotion of suicide or self-harm, hateful conduct, and abuse/harassment. The figures marked a significant increase from the previous reporting period, where 2,31,215 accounts were banned for similar reasons.
