Meta is jazzing up Instagram DMs with a suite of new features aimed at making messaging more flexible, personalized, and fun.
Here’s the lowdown: First off, if you’ve ever regretted hitting send too quickly, you’re in luck. Instagram now allows you to edit sent messages within 15 minutes. Just long-press the message and hit “edit” to make your changes.
For those who like to keep certain conversations at their fingertips, Instagram is introducing the ability to pin up to three chats, be it group or one-on-one, to the top of your inbox. A simple swipe left or long press on the chat, followed by tapping “pin,” will do the trick. Unpinning is just as easy whenever you choose.
In a nod to privacy, Instagram is giving users control over read receipts. You can now decide if you want them on for all chats or just specific ones, adjustable in the account settings under “Messages and story replies.”

Adding a dash of fun, Instagram lets you save your go-to stickers for quick access in DMs, and enhances replies with options for stickers, GIFs, videos, photos, and even voice messages. Just press and hold on a message and select “reply” to see your options.
And for those who love to customize, Instagram is rolling out chat themes like Love (set to get animated), Lollipop, and even Avatar: The Last Airbender, to set the mood for every conversation. Change your chat theme by tapping on the chat name and exploring the themes option.
Meta’s announcement promises these updates are just the beginning, hinting at more features to ensure Instagram remains a top choice for private, enjoyable communication.
