Bhavish Aggarwal’s new Krutrim AI chatbot has received unfavourable reviews from users online, with many saying the new chatbot is limited to the knowledge cut-off of OpenAI’s ChatGPT 3.5 model.

What Happened: The Ola founder’s latest venture is a public beta version of its AI chatbot, similar to OpenAI‘s ChatGPT and Google‘s Gemini.

This development follows a significant $50 million infusion into the new business, valuing Krutrim at $1 billion and making it India's first AI unicorn of 2024. Matrix Partners India, a consistent supporter of Aggarwal's ventures, led the investment round.

However, as several X users signed up to try the new service, they reported that it was lacking some of the abilities of its global rivals.

Meanwhile, others tweeted on the social media platform that the homegrown chatbot was responding to questions about itself as OpenAI’s ChatGPT, leading to speculation that it was based on the same model with a revamped design.

In pictures shared by users, Krutrim’s chatbot says it is a GPT-3.5 model, which has been developed by OpenAI.

“Krutrim tells itself that it's made on Opensource weights. My 2 cents to AI Entrepreneurs and Unicorns raisers Step 1: Search for open source models Step 2: Download Step 3: Fine tune Do not forget step 3,” one user quipped.

“Ola ne phir se Indians ke saath dhokha kiya hai. OpenAI ChatGPT ke upar khud ka sticker laga ke Indians ka kaat diya. copy karo to dhang se karo. (Ola has once again deceived Indians. By putting their own sticker on OpenAI ChatGPT, they have betrayed Indians. If you’re going to copy, do it properly.),” another user said.

Other users shared images of Krutrim failing elementary mathematics.
