Vidya Balan Takes Legal Route To Tackle Instagram Impersonator

Actress Vidya Balan has reportedly lodged a complaint against an unknown individual for creating a fake Instagram account.

What Happened: The actress claimed that along with using her name and images, the person behind the account has allegedly been soliciting money, as reported by ANI.

The Instagram account in question bears a striking resemblance to Balan's authentic account. Aditi Sandhu, the actress’s manager, filed a complaint under the Information Technology Act at the Khar Police Station on Monday, as per reports.

The Khar Police have initiated an first information report (FIR) against the unidentified individual under Section 66 (C) of the IT Act, and further investigation is in progress, the news agency reported. According to police sources, the accused has also established a fake Gmail account for the Instagram ID’s login credentials.

Keeping Followers In The Loop: In response to the FIR, the actress informed her followers about the situation through Instagram stories. She cautioned her fans and followers about such deceitful acts and urged them to block and report the fraudulent account to prevent any further incidents.

In an Instagram story, Balan wrote, "Hello everyone… first the phone number, and now someone is running an account in my name. From this account, he is contacting people with my name. My team and I have reported it. You should also report and block this account. This will be very good for us. He is talking to many of my friends and many of my people. Please don’t entertain it and report and block it,".

Balan has a following of 9.2 million on her official Instagram account, where she shares updates on her daily life and reels.

A contact from the film industry reportedly alerted Vidya about the existence of the fake account. It was revealed that the individual managing the Instagram account was also engaging with people via WhatsApp, according to reports.
