Vodafone Idea Eyes 5G Rollout In 6-7 Months Amid Financial Revival

Vodafone Idea (Vi), India’s third-largest telecom operator, has hinted at a 5G rollout within the next 6 to 7 months, as it navigates financial challenges while expanding its network.

Vodafone Q3 Earnings Performance: In its recent financial report, Vi announced a revenue of ₹10,673 crore for the last quarter, marking a slight increase from the previous year. The company’s losses have narrowed to ₹6,986 crore, down from ₹7,990 crore a year ago, and its Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) grew to ₹4,350 crore, with improved margins of 40.8%.

Facing debts of around ₹5,400 crore due in the next financial year, Vi’s management is under pressure to balance debt repayment with necessary capital investments. These debts include spectrum payouts, bank debt, and Other Convertible Debentures (OCDs).

The company is actively investing in expanding its high-speed broadband network across 17 priority circles and currently boasts a 4G network covering over 1 billion Indians, with 125.6 million subscribers. Vi is also engaging in advanced trials for 5G deployment, involving cutting-edge technologies like virtual Radio Access Network (vRAN) and Open Radio Access Network (ORAN).

In addition to its network expansion, Vi has integrated utility bill payment functions into its app and launched a ‘shop' section, collaborating with various service providers. The company has also been recognized for its ‘Rich Business Messaging' services, delivering over 2 billion messages, and has received awards for its business solutions.
