Jio Platforms New AI Platform Could Revolutionize 5G, 6G Services: Here's Everything You Need To Know

Jio Platforms has introduced ‘Jio Brain’, an innovative artificial intelligence (AI) platform, designed to seamlessly integrate machine learning (ML) capabilities into telecom and enterprise networks as well as industry-specific IT environments.

What Happened? This development, as announced by the company’s Senior Vice President (SVP) Aayush Bhatnagar on LinkedIn, comes without the necessity for extensive network or IT transformations.

The creation of Jio Brain is the result of two years of dedicated research and development by hundreds of engineers. The platform boasts over 500 REST Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) and data APIs, enabling the creation of ML-powered services. It offers advanced AI features for processing images, videos, text, documents, and speech, along with in-built AI algorithms available as a service.

Bhatnagar emphasized that Jio Brain will play a crucial role in developing new 5G services, transforming enterprises, optimizing networks, and laying the groundwork for 6G, where ML is a fundamental component.

Why it matters? Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani had previously emphasized AI as a key growth area for Jio, with plans to develop India-specific AI models and solutions across various domains. This initiative aims to extend the benefits of AI to Indian citizens, businesses, and the government.

In a significant collaboration, Jio Platforms partnered with Nvidia in September 2023 to build a cloud-based AI compute infrastructure, enhancing India’s global standing in AI. Nvidia will provide advanced computing resources, including the Nvidia GH200 Grace Hopper Superchip and Nvidia DGX Cloud. This AI infrastructure, managed by Jio, will be hosted in AI-ready computing data centres, eventually expanding to 2,000 MW of computing capacity.
