A Reddit user from New York, who often travels to India, has accused the crew of a Lufthansa flight of discriminating against Indian passengers, particularly the elderly and those with limited English proficiency. His post, detailing several incidents of alleged racism and rudeness by the German airline’s staff, has gone viral on the platform.

What Happened? The user recounted instances where Lufthansa crew members were dismissive and insulting. He described an encounter in Frankfurt where a staff member rudely rebuffed his query about refilling a water bottle. Onboard, he witnessed crew members insulting older Indian passengers and those who struggled with English. In one case, a flight attendant harshly reprimanded an elderly woman for not speaking clearly when she requested tea.

The Reddit user also highlighted issues with the airline’s catering service. Passengers who ordered vegetarian meals received vegan options instead, leading to complaints about the quality of the food. In a particularly distressing incident, a woman who ordered a vegetarian meal was served chicken and then denied a replacement.

Ruffling more feathers: These allegations have resonated with others, including Bengaluru-based techie Shantanu Goel, who echoed the sentiments on social media platform X. Goel’s post caught the attention of Paytm CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma, who expressed a preference for Indian airlines over European ones, citing similar experiences with Lufthansa.

Sharma’s dissatisfaction with Lufthansa dates back to 2017 when he criticized the airline on Twitter for its baggage handling and staff attitude at Delhi airport. This recent incident adds to a growing list of complaints against Lufthansa, raising concerns about the airline’s customer service and treatment of Indian passengers.
