The Railways Strategic Business Group of L&T Construction clinched a contract for the electrification of the much-anticipated Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Project.
What Happened: As per a press release L&T Construction has procured a mega contract for devising 508 Route Km of High-Speed Electrification System Works for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) Project. Often referred to as the Bullet Train Project, the endeavour is backed by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and is being executed by a certified Japanese agency on behalf of the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Ltd (NHSRCL).

The contract encapsulates the design, manufacture, supply, construction, installation, testing, and commissioning of the 2 x 25 kV Power Supply Electrification System. This comprises Traction Substations, High-Speed Overhead Equipment, and MV/LV Power Distribution Equipment Works on a Design-Build Lump Sum Price basis.
This initiative is the first of its kind in India, facilitating the application of Japanese Shinkansen High-Speed Electrification Technology with advanced equipment. Once completed, the electrification system will capacitate trains to traverse at speeds of up to 320 KMPH.
S N Subrahmanyan, chairman & managing director of L&T, expressed his pride in the achievement, stating that the project would place L&T's Railways Business amongst the top global Railway System Integrators, further solidifying India’s position in the global rail industry.
