Markets Hit Record Highs As IT Giants Light Up The Earning Season

Friday’s trading session witnessed a flurry of activity on India’s NIFTY 50 index. While the tech giant Infosys led the pack of gainers, pharmaceutical major Cipla grappled with losses.

Infosys, with its shares trading at ₹1,612.75, clinched a remarkable gain of 7.93%, the highest among today’s top performers. The stock experienced a surge thanks to better-than-expected December quarter results.

Following closely, the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation saw a robust rise of 5.45%. The shares jumped to ₹223.40 from its previous close of ₹211.85, another significant upward movement on the trading floor.

Coming in third, Tech Mahindra recorded a gain of 4.69%, with its stock price climbing to ₹1,308.05 from ₹1249.40. Fourth on the list, Larsen & Toubro Infotech registered a gain of 4.65%, its stock price moving up to ₹6237.05 from ₹5959.95. Lastly, Tata Consultancy Services also ended the day on a high note with a 3.94% gain, its stock price soaring to ₹3882.80 from ₹3,735.55.

On the flip side, Cipla experienced a drop of 1.33%, its share price sliding to ₹1,308.00 from the last close of ₹1325.65, the worst among today’s bottom performers. Following Cipla, Apollo Hospitals saw a decrease of 1.26% in its stock price, which stood at ₹5,795.70, down from ₹5,869.90.

In the same vein, UltraTech Cement recorded a drop of 1.13%, with its shares slipping to ₹9,808.45 from ₹9,920.45. Fourth on the list, Bajaj Finserv experienced a decline of 1.04%, its shares trading at ₹1,651.90, down from ₹1669.25. Lastly, Power Grid Corporation of India saw a minor decrease of 1.01%, with its shares trading at ₹239.50, down from ₹241.95.

Indian benchmark indices closed at record levels, extending the winning streak for the fourth consecutive session on January 12. The Sensex was up 847.27 points or 1.18% at 72,568.45, while the Nifty gained 247.30 points or 1.14%, closing at 21,894.50.
