Ola, the renowned cab service provider, is all set to unveil its first Large Language Model (LLM), named ‘Krutrim‘, on December 15. CEO Bhavish Aggarwal announced this exciting development on social media, showcasing Krutrim’s capabilities by generating bilingual invites for the launch event in English and Hindi.
What do we know about ‘Krutrim’ and its abilities?
Aggarwal expressed his enthusiasm for this ‘full stack AI tech made in India’, emphasizing the transformative impact AI will have on our economic and cultural landscapes. With Krutrim, India is not just a consumer of western AI products anymore; it’s stepping up to build its own. This AI venture aims to compete with global AI giants like OpenAI and Google.

Krutrim, registered under Krutrim SI Designs, is a brainchild of Aggarwal’s vision to integrate users’ ideas into the AI app. He even surveyed social media to gather suggestions, promising a free Ola S1X+ electric scooter as the best idea.
Aggarwal, during a chat with spiritual guru Sadhguru at the INSIGHT 2023 conference, highlighted the need for an AI that resonates with Indian cultural ethos and languages, as most LLMs are based on non-Indian data. Krutrim aims to fill this gap.
Krutrim, established in April 2023, marks a significant stride in India’s journey towards AI leadership. This upcoming AI revolution, Aggarwal believes, will not only boost human productivity but also propel scientific and creative pursuits, aligning with India’s unique cultural values of inquiry and metaphysical exploration. Krutrim, co-directed by Aggarwal and Krishnamurthy Tenneti, stands as a testament to India’s burgeoning role in the global AI landscape.
