India Ordered 250 Biryanis Per Minute During Ind vs Pak World Cup Encounter

On-demand food delivery service, Swiggy, unwrapped 2023, revealing insights into its users’ habits and preferences.

According to a blog post by Swiggy’s Communications Team, the most-ordered dish on Swiggy remains the Biryani. This is the eighth consecutive year that the Biryani has claimed the top spot.

In the biryani-crazed year, India collectively ordered a remarkable 2.5 biryanis per second. The Biryani fever welcomed a whopping 24.9 lakh new users to Swiggy, all making their debut with a biryani order. And to emphasize the widespread craze, biryani was searched an astounding 40.30 lakh times on the Swiggy platform.

In the heart of Chandigarh, a family with an insatiable love for Biryani placed a staggering order of 70 plates during the intense India vs. Pakistan World Cup match in October. Swiggy’s systems were buzzing, handling an impressive load of over 250 Biryani orders per minute at the peak of the match.

During Durga Pujo, Gulab Jamuns took centre stage, surpassing the usual favourite Roshogollas with an impressive 7.7 million orders. 271 cakes were being delivered per minute on Valentine’s Day. The year also saw a surge in health-conscious dessert choices, with over 2.1 million orders for sugar-free desserts on Swiggy Guiltfree.

Swiggy recorded over 6.64 billion unique dishes on its platform across the nation. The data presented is based on Swiggy’s order analysis, reflecting millions of food, grocery, and other on-demand transactions across India from 01 January- 23 November 2023
