'Tis the season to make bad decisions! - The Gen Z Gazette

Hello, Namaste, Gm/Gn and HAPPY DECEMBER!🎄

’tis the season to make bad decisions!

White House Welcomes Christmas Tree
Snoop Dogg swears off weed

The past month has been a rollercoaster to put it lightly:

  • India came second in the World Cup, we don’t talk about it.
  • The entire country lit up for the festival of lights!
  • Speaking of lighting up, Snoop Dogg gave up smoking and gave up giving up smoking.
  • Sam Altman lost his job, found another job and got his old job back….(wut?)
  • Orry entered Big boss and very quickly left it too..guess he couldn’t be a liver there.
  • Black Friday online sales left a burning hole in many people’s wallet (hopefully, I don’t wanna be alone)

I have recently gotten into investing!! Shout it from rooftops, especially to my mother, she’d be so proud.

I have very rarely understood the concept of investing, why would I put my money somewhere to “grow”

when I can buy things I do not need instead? Such a bizarre thought! But….my more financially stable friends insisted that this is a practice I should get into and make sure I stick to as much as possible.

So based on the advice of other people my age who know slightly more than I do, I download an investment app and got to work.

My first struggle was figuring out where to invest so I went to the Benzinga India Website (finance and investing made simpler) to figure out is investing in stocks is an option.

Turns out, stock trading is tedious and requires a level of patience I do not possess. Then I thought, mutual funds perhaps. But what does that even mean? All these ‘mutual funds sahi hai’ ads never actually told us what mutual funds are. But subliminal marketing took over and I was convinced ki ‘mutual funds sahi hai.’

So that’s where I have started my investing journey, index funds to be very precise. It’s been one month and my money has gone down. So do not ask me how I am doing, we just say yasss and move on.

Something I think it would really have helped to learn these things in school/college. What is investing? Where can you invest? How to manage finance, pay bills, pay taxes. These are questions that run through my mind despite being 22. It’s so not a slay.

As I go through life, I realise how important it is to have something like investments to fall back on. There is no telling what is going to happen and if you’re not prepared, it can end badly. Plus once you set goals for yourself and know what you’re working towards, you will need all the help you can get.

If you guys have any finance or investment related question, feel free to ask me, as you can tell I am somewhat of an expert.

Until next time, remember: “I live, I am a liver.”
