Netizens on X were divided on the question of bursting crackers on Diwali, with many concerned about its impact on the environment and others challenging the argument.
What Happened: Co-founder of Snapdeal and Titan Capital Kunal Bahl, recently expressed his concerns about the air pollution during Diwali celebrations, calling it an “unbelievable self-goal”.
On Sunday, Bahl took to Twitter to voice his dismay over the escalating pollution levels. His tweet read: “Why do we do this to ourselves every year 🫥 Absolute mayhem after 8 pm once the firecrackers started going off! We ourselves are going to breathe this air, no one else. Unbelievable self goal. #pollution”.
He also shared an image of the air quality index at a Delhi locality, which read 999 and was labelled as “hazardous.” Several reports suggested that many Delhites had defied a ban on bursting crackers.

However, others, such as influencer Akshat Srivastava took an opposing standpoint, saying people should be “allowed to follow their traditions without embroiling them in debates”. He said that Authorities should come up with a detailed plan instead of “last-minute easy fixes”, such as odd-even traffic systems or a ban on crackers.
Several commentators made points on either side, with many leaning towards allowing people to burst crackers.
