In a significant boost to India’s ‘Make in India’ drive, Intel has joined forces with eight leading Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) and Original Design Manufacturers (ODMs) to kickstart laptop production on Indian soil. This strategic move will invigorate the local manufacturing landscape and mark a new chapter for some firms venturing into laptop production for the first time.

What Happened? Intel’s expertise will be pivotal, offering a wealth of industry knowledge and operational acumen to craft entry-level laptops. The tech giant’s support extends to setting up sophisticated Surface Mount Technology (SMT) lines, establishing stringent quality checks, and ensuring the benchmarking of the final products stands up to global standards.

Intel’s guidance on Semi Knocked Down (SKD) and Completely Knocked Down (CKD) processes will underpin the collaboration, essential for the intricate assembly of laptops.

Why it matters? Come November, the India Tech Ecosystem Summit will serve as a showcase for the diverse array of devices birthed from this collaboration, highlighting the prowess of India’s manufacturing capabilities.

Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar lauds this partnership as a catalyst for India’s burgeoning electronics sector, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a $1 Trillion digital economy and a $300 billion contribution from electronics manufacturing by 2025-26.
