A recent account of an employee trapped in an elevator for hours and subsequently facing a pay cut has sparked outrage online.
What Happened? The individual, whose office is located on the 7th floor, had been experiencing elevator issues for weeks, which the concerned department had been neglecting. On the day of the incident, not only did the elevator malfunction, but the power supply also cut off, leaving the employee stuck for three hours until the human resource department intervened.
However, the ordeal didn't end there. After being released, the employee learned that he had been marked absent due to his late arrival, which led to a salary deduction. Despite this, the staff still expected him to work due to shortages. The assistant manager insisted he works, threatening his performance appraisal and questioning his work ethic, according to the Reddit post.
The employee, who recorded the elevator incident and the subsequent conversation with HR and his manager, is contemplating escalating the matter.

A deeper culture problem? The post has since received nearly 500 upvotes and numerous comments, with fellow Redditors expressing disbelief and concern over the company's behaviour and the toxic work environment. Many advised the employee to switch companies, questioning the ethics of the employer's approach and likening it to slavery.
This incident highlights the pressing need for companies to foster a supportive work environment and address employee grievances promptly and fairly, ensuring the well-being and rights of their staff.
