Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has teamed up with British defence firm BAE Systems to introduce an all-terrain vehicle to the Indian market for th Indian Armed Forces.

What Happened: The UK firm will supplying the BvS10 all-terrain vehicle for an Indian Armed Forces program, with L&T being the primary bidder for the Indian market, backed by BAE Systems Hägglunds, the Swedish manufacturer of the BvS10 vehicle family, the companies said in a statement.

Together, the two firms have enhanced the BvS10 to meet the specific needs of the Indian Armed Forces, creating a new variant known as the BvS10-Sindhu. These vehicles will be delivered from L&T's armoured systems complex in Hazira, along with integrated logistic support (ILS).

“Our partnership with Larsen & Toubro gives us the opportunity to expand into the Indo-Pacific market,” said Tommy Gustafsson-Rask, managing director of BAE Systems Hägglunds.

Arun Ramchandani, executive vice president and head of L&T Defence said the BvS10-Sindhu is the “ideal vehicle” for the extremely challenging terrain and climate in which it is going to be used.

Specifications: The BvS10 vehicle, on display at the Defense and Security Equipment International (DSEI) event in London, showcases a mobile short range air defense system and is versatile as a modular fighting platform capable of carrying a wide range of payloads to counter various threats.

The BvS10 also is built for maneuverability across diverse terrains, including snow, ice, rock, sand, mud, swamps, and steep mountains. The vehicle can also traverse flooded areas and coastal waters. It can transport personnel and supplies while providing mounted firepower to address contemporary threats.

The BvS10 is currently in service in various countries, including Austria, France, the Netherlands, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. It is also on order for the German Army.
