Finfluencer Called Out For Allegedly Faking Degrees And Experience, Deactivates Social Media

Social media finance personality Ravisutanjani Kumar has come under the spotlight for allegedly providing fake educational credentials, sparking a debate on the credibility of finfluencers and finance gurus on social media.

What Happened: A user with the handle @SatarkAadmi on X, formerly Twitter, dug into Kumar’s educational and professional experience and questioned the legitimacy of his academic credentials in a detailed thread posted on Tuesday.

The account raised doubts about Kumar’s claimed education at the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Allahabad, saying IIIT Allahabad offers a Bachelors in Technology degree only in electronics and communications engineering and IT, contrary to Kumar’s claims of receiving a degree in computer science.

It was also alleged that the finfluencer’s name does not feature in convocation programmes held at the institute between 2015 to 2022. His alleged degree from Management Development Institute (MDI) Gurgaon, was also brought into question among others.

Further, the X user suggested that Kumar attended a government institute and received a Wireman degree, contrary to his public profile. Discrepancies were also pointed out in his employment history at Zomato and claimed military participation.

Other X users have alos furnished further evidence alleging misrepresentation by Kumar.

Kumar appears to have deactivated his X and LinkedIn accounts while turning his Instagram account private.

Why It Matters: The incident highlights the issue of false credentials and the potential spread of misinformation online by finfluencers, which have caused quite a storm on social media recently, with SEBI even drawing up a consultation paper in a bid to curb “misselling” of financial products.

It underscores the importance of verifying information, particularly in the digital age where personal and professional credibility can be easily fabricated.
