NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Monday, highlighting the tech giant’s growing engagement with the world’s largest democracy. Discussions primarily centered around India’s extensive potential in artificial intelligence (AI).

What Happened: This meeting, the second between Modi and Huang, underscores NVIDIA’s interest in India’s rapidly expanding technology sector. It comes in a week when Modi is slated to host the upcoming G20 summit, where leaders from the world’s leading economies, including U.S. President Joe Biden, will convene.

Modi took to X, formerly Twitter, to tweet: “We talked at length about the rich potential India offers in the world of AI.”

Notably, this meeting followed India’s recent historic lunar landing, spotlighting the nation’s advancing technological prowess.

NVIDIA has been one of the best-performing stocks in the US this year as the company is seen as being at the forefront of AI innovation amid a boom in interest around the technology. The stock has risen nearly 240% so far this year.

More Talks: Following discussions with Modi, Huang interacted with researchers from renowned institutions like the Indian Institute of Science and the Indian Institute of Technology. Conversations spanned a wide array of topics, including language barriers, agriculture, healthcare, digital economies, and key scientific challenges.

NVIDIA’s operations in India began in Bangalore in 2004. The company currently has engineering development centers in Gurugram, Hyderabad, Pune and Bengaluru. It has over 3,800 NVIDIA professionals in India and more than 3.2 lakh Indian developers actively participating in NVIDIA’s developer program.

Modi has set ambitious targets for India, aiming to elevate it to the position of the world’s third-largest economy by 2030 from fifth currently and achieve developed economy status by 2047.
