Trips to Thailand may get cheaper for Indian holidayers as the island country reportedly mulls easing visa rules and extending stays for most.

What Happened: Thailand is considering relaxing visa rules for Chinese and Indian travellers and extending how long visitors from all nations can stay foreign the country, aiming to boost tourism revenue to nearly $100 billion (₹8.3 lakh crore) next year under the leadership of new Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin.

Indian travellers currently have to pay 2,000 baht (₹4,715.29) for a 15-day visa on arrival. Thavisin aims to expand the list of visa-exempt countries and extend stay limits for most international travellers, offering caps of 15 to 30 days for many nationalities. Chinese tourists, who make up a significant part of tourists to the country, will be a major focus of the reforms as well.

The Prime Minister said in a tweet on X that he had discussed these options with executives from Airports of Thailand and several airlines, with the near-term goal of attracting more foreign tourists in the peak tourism season of the fourth quarter. The airport operator has agreed to reduce bottlenecks and increase flight capacity by 20%, as well as expedite immigration clearances.
