You Could Soon Ask Siri To Make UPI Payments Says RBI: Details Here

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is adding a touch of conversation to your payments! On Thursday, RBI unveiled a fresh feature for UPI – conversational payments. Imagine chatting with an AI buddy to make your transactions. That’s the future RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das envisions, aiming to simplify the payment process.

What’s in store? Whether you’re a smartphone enthusiast or a feature phone user, this channel’s got you covered. And it’s not just for the English and Hindi speakers. Soon, multiple Indian languages will join the party, ensuring everyone gets a slice of the digital pie.

Behind the scenes, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) is gearing up to roll out guidelines for this chat-friendly payment mode. The goal? A smoother, friendlier digital transaction experience.

More tech infusion: But there’s more in the RBI’s tech treasure chest. They’re also eyeing the power of Near Field Communication (NFC) for UPI Lite. This means even in areas with sketchy internet, you can make digital payments swiftly.

For those new to UPI Lite, it’s a nifty tool letting feature phone users dive into the UPI universe, making payments directly from their bank accounts. Just remember, there’s a cap: ₹200 per transaction and a total balance of ₹2,000 in the on-device wallet. The transaction cap has now been increased to ₹500 per transaction.
