The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) announced a temporary disruption in its ticketing service due to technical issues on July 25, 2023.
What Happened: In a tweet, the IRCTC informed users that the ticketing service on its website and app is currently unavailable due to technical reasons. The corporation’s technical team is working on resolving the issue. In the meantime, the IRCTC suggested that users can book tickets through other B2C platforms like Amazon and MakeMyTrip.

Why It Matters: The temporary disruption of the IRCTC’s ticketing service could potentially affect a large number of users who rely on the platform for booking railway tickets. Around 14.5 lakh reserved tickets are booked on a daily basis in Indian Railways, out of which 81% are e-tickets, booked through IRCTC
It’s noteworthy that the IRCTC is not just a platform for booking railway tickets but also offers other services like catering, tourism, and Tatkal booking. Any disruption in its services can have a significant impact on a large number of people.
