India’s united payments interface (UPI) has been making big strides in terms of global reach as countries around the world warm up to the technology.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in an address to the Indian diaspora during his trip to Paris, announced that India and France had inked a deal to bring the technology to the latter—the first such arrangement for the technology in Europe. This comes after India linked UPI with Singapore’s PayNow online payments system.

The NPCI has enabled payments through mobile numbers in countries like the US, the UK, United Arab Emirates, Canada and Australia. The body is also looking to expand further into new markets.
