AI chatbot ChatGPT appeared to be down on Thursday, August 31, leaving many users confused as to what was going on.
Is ChatGPT Down in India?
ChatGPT’s free and paid sites were down for users in India and potentially across the globe as of 7:40 pm Indian Standard Time. According to website tracker Downdetector, there was a massive spike in ChatGPT outages reported in the last hour on August 31.
Those who can log into the application are currently met with a message that says: “Something went wrong. If this issue persists please contact us through our help center at help.openai.com.” However, many said that they were experiencing trouble even logging in.
OpenAI’s own status-tracking website acknowledges the server outage for both web and mobile UIs and says it is investigating the issue. “Some users are experiencing issues loading conversation history and creating new conversations. We have identified the issue and are working on a remediation,” the site says.
The application had also experienced issues on three days in July that saw many users reporting that ChatGPT is blocking them from signing in, with several taking to X, formerly Twitter, to voice their concerns.
