Anand Mahindra took Eric Garcetti, the U.S. ambassador in India for a spin around South Mumbai in a Mahindra-made electric vehicle before taking to Twitter to laud Garcetti’s interest in Indian culture and the Hindi language.

What Happened? The U.S. ambassador to India, met with Anand Mahindra, the Chairman of the Mahindra Group, in Mumbai on Wednesday. During their meeting, Garcetti test drove a Mahindra Electric SUV around South Mumbai, with Mahindra riding along as a passenger.

Garcetti, who recently took on his ambassadorial role, expressed his excitement over the electric vehicle, noting that it contained parts manufactured in the U.S. He took to social media, stating, “The future is electric,” and thanked Mahindra for his insights on how U.S.-India business cooperation can facilitate the shift towards clean mobility.

In response, Mahindra expressed his pleasure at meeting Garcetti and revealed that the latter had studied Hindi and Indian Culture during his undergraduate studies at Columbia. He even joked about Garcetti’s skills as a jazz pianist, challenging him to perform some Hindi songs during their next meeting.

The meeting was part of Garcetti’s busy schedule in Mumbai, where he met with other high-profile figures. These included Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, Chairman of Reliance Industries Mukesh Ambani, and Uday Kotak, with whom he discussed the US-India partnership.

Garcetti even found time to play cricket with Mithali Raj, watch the sunrise at the Gateway of India, and enjoy a meal at the famous Irani café, Kyani & Co.
