Ixigo's New Electric Inter-City Bus Service Hits The Streets For Trial Run: 'This Beast...'

Aloke Bajpai, the CEO and co-founder of travel platform Ixigo took to Twitter to tease the progress of FreshBus, a green inter-city transportation business that the platform invested ₹26 crore, in February.

What Happened? Bajpai posted a short video of an electric bus on trial for FreshBus, adding certain details about the range on a single charge and why that’s exciting for him as an investor.

“Trial runs on the road going smoothly for FreshBus, our modern, electric inter-city bus service. This beast was able to do 400+ Km on a single charge,” tweeted Bajpai.

Responding to a question about whether 400 km of range would be adequate for most routes, Bajpai stated that 70% of the most frequented bus routes in India fall within 400 km. “We will announce the first routes and pricing shortly,” he added.

The Ixigo co-founder began his association with FreshBus in February and has since been very engaged and excited about its prospects.

An inter-city bus travel revolution? FreshBus plans to launch 24 electric buses that run from Hyderabad and Bengaluru with an expansion roadmap of deploying over 1,000 buses across India in the next 2-3 years.

According to a release, the company aims to provide an alternative for convenient, affordable, and eco-friendly inter-city bus travel in India. The bus platform promises a range of services and comforts that aren’t quite commonly associated with bus travel in India.

These include noise-free air-conditioned cabins, comfortable seating, uniformed and friendly crew, IOT-enabled real-time air-quality and temperature monitoring, security CCTVs, personal charging docks, Wi-Fi, real-time tracking, alcohol checks, and more.
