In a recent incident that has raised concerns over data privacy, a woman from Bengaluru was allegedly stalked by her former partner, who was an employee of a food delivery platform, using the company’s data.

What Happened: As per a LinkedIn post by Rupal Madhup, a brand marketer at Lendingkart, her friend’s former boyfriend allegedly exploited his access to the company’s data to monitor her movements.

The man, Madhup says, flagged her friend’s account in the system, gaining real-time access to her delivery locations, which he used to track her activities. The man started sending her concerning texts related to her place and time of order.

Despite feeling odd, the woman initially ignored the man’s behaviour but later became suspicious when she noticed a correlation between her food orders and the questions her ex-boyfriend asked about her activities and locations.

The incident has sparked a debate on data privacy and the potential misuse of customer data by employees of tech companies. While some have questioned the authenticity of the story, citing the stringent privacy policies and security measures in place at most tech companies, others have shared their own experiences of data misuse and cyberstalking. This incident underscores the need for stronger cybersecurity laws and better protection of consumer data.

While the name of the food delivery platform involved has not been disclosed, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of data misuse and the need for stringent data privacy measures.

“Data might be the new electricity, but it's also one of the most dangerous weapons in the wrong hands,” Madhup added in her post.
