Pizza Price Cut Ahead of Cricket World Cup: Fact Or Fiction?

Media reports earlier today put out claims stating that major pizza chains, including Domino’s and Pizza Hut, are slashing prices on some of their more popular items to fend off competition from smaller rivals ahead of the Mens Cricket World Cup which is due to begin this week. However, a closer look reveals that this might not be the whole truth.

What Happened? The team at Benzinga India decided to cross-verify these claims and after a quick survey across menus of various cities, found that the prices of pizzas from these renowned brands remained consistent. This finding contradicts the widespread narrative that these pizza giants have been cutting rates.

For added context, it’s worth noting that Domino’s, operated by Jubilant FoodWorks in India, has seen its market share dip from 72% to 65% over the past three years. Similarly, Pizza Hut, under the Yum Brands umbrella, has also witnessed a decline. However, does this necessarily correlate with a price drop? Not just yet.

Users of the popular social media platform X have been actively questioning the authenticity of these claims. Many took to their profiles to directly tag the official handles of these pizza brands, seeking clarity on the alleged price reductions. Tweets like this one by @IgniPinto and another by @dipanmoy echo the sentiments of many consumers who are hungry for the truth.

While smaller pizza brands have indeed been expanding their presence, especially in tier-2 and tier-3 cities, and offering competitive prices, it’s essential to approach such claims with a pinch of scepticism.

A journalist later tweeted to clarify stating, “This is supposed to be only a Cricket World Cup offer for India matches only, as per company sources.”
